Based in Sydney, Australia, vocalist / pianist Janet Seidel currently enjoys a rare and enviable international reputation with 14 CDs released in Australia and also available in several other countries. In the Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD 2006 (UK) she is described as “Australia’s first lady of jazz”. On the other hand she is revered by cabaret aficionados overseas such as in New York’s Cabaret Hotline - “I had heard so much about this delightful jazz star from Australia, but I was still not prepared for this awesome performance. I have never been so thrilled by a performer - this lady is amazing - such pure clean vocals!" according to the writer. Janet has been performing jazz oriented material and the Great American Songbook in particular since her High School and University days in South Australia in the 1970s. She has been fortunate to work with some great Australian jazz musicians in her various groups. Her first CDs made in the early 1990s feature some potent jazz content from artists such as Tom Baker, Ian Date, Paul Williams, Bob Gebert, Billy Ross and Col Nolan to name a few. Janet’s likes to tour with her jazz quintet, but more often now she travels with just her Trio with excellent guitarist Chuck Morgan and her brother David on double bass. It was with this trio that her first forays into the Cabaret world were launched in 2000 with a kind of personal tribute show and CD “Doris and Me” which has played successfully in many theatres and venues around Australia. The latest success in cabaret has been the show and CD, Delovely, which features a selection of Cole Porter songs recorded live at Sydney’s Woodfire Cabaret venue. With 14 CDs to her name she has covered quite some ground stylistically and many have been nominated for awards. All have been well reviewed all over the world. Janet’s groups have toured Australia several times and played most important Jazz Festivals around the country. Internationally she has toured to many countries including UK, USA, Europe, the Middle East and many South East Asian countries.

Drummer/ Composer/ Arranger/ Producer, Kere Buchanan formed The Bodacious Cowboys a little over ten years ago. 'The Bodacious Cowboys' is celebrating the music of Steely Dan. Steely Dan recorded with critical acclaim six albums, (Can't Buy A Thrill/ Countdown To Ecstasy/ Katy Lied/ The Royal Scam/ Aja and Gaucho. These albums produced hits like Reeling In The Years/ Do It Again/ Black Friday/ Kid Charlemagne/ Black Cow/ Josie/ FM/ Peg/ Hey Nineteen and many more. The youngest of three boys, Shannon formed a band and "Cypress" played gigs in country pubs however, he was in debt and out of work. His brothers encouraged him to enter Australian Idol, a TV talent show that had millions of Australian's voting for their favourite singers. At audition, his performance of "Hold Me in Your Arms" impressed the three judges. The emotional Marcia Hines, said that, "she had just discovered a voice," and the acerbic Ian Dickson "Dicko" said, "Australia will love you." The competition was fierce and over fifteen weeks, Shannon tackled all manner of music from U2 to Frank Sinatra. Eventually, Shannon emerged as runner-up. He went on to sign a multi-album deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment and so began an incredible music journey. His first single was the Moving Pictures' song, "What About Me". Twenty-one years after its debut, it was back at number 1 in Australia and later, at number 2 in Ireland. "Dicko" was right; Australia did love this boy from the bush. Shannon's debut album titled "That's What I'm Talking About" entered the charts at No.1 and put Shannon Noll well and truly on a successful musical path. The albums' second single, "Drive," was a pedigree tune written by Phil Thornalley and Bryan Adams. It went top 5 and was Shannon's choice to perform at the 2004 TV Week Logie Awards. The ensuing momentum was massive and forty live shows followed in forty-seven days as yet another #1 single hit the market in the albums third single "Learn to Fly." When all was said and done the debut album "That's What I'm Talking About" had been a No.1 album and had gone on to sell a certified 5 times platinum and had remained in the top 100 albums chart for almost a year. Shannon has now released "No Turning Back: The Story So Far." It's a classy collection of ten big hits and five new songs lead by "Summertime." Perry Keyes

Perry grew up in the inner city working class area of Sydney known as Redfern. He grew up in a home populated by various uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents. Every Saturday morning his grandmother would do the house work whilst playing the likes of Ray Charles and Roy Orbison at a volume loud enough to spill out onto the neighbouring streets, lined with tightly-packed terraced houses, warehouses and textile factories. It was within this environment that Perry formed the band The Stolen Holdens in 1989. Musically inspired by the likes of The Clash and Elvis Costello, Keyes developed a small but loyal following in the local Sydney music scene. Perry released his debut double album Meter in 2005 to critical acclaim and numerous years end best-of lists. His next album The Last Ghost Train Home was received with even greater acclaim upon its release in 2007. It went on to be short-listed for the Australian Music Prize and was named the ABC Radio National Album of the Year.

Darren Percival has achieved an outstanding reputation in Australia as an artist, musician, vocal coach and jazz singer of talent, imagination and skill. With over twenty years of professional experience, he has worked as an entertainer, recording artist, singing teacher and innovator with resounding results. A childhood spent in Mexico inspired the canvas for his ‘spontaneous vocalization’, and recording monthly cassette tapes for family and friends back home in Australia propelled his fascination with recording the human voice and being able to play it back. In the early years he learnt his craft studying singing techniques with Alan Dean, Kerrie Biddell and Mark Murphy. At 17 he was the youngest ever finalist in The Australian Singing Competition and when he left high school in 1989 he toured throughout the west coast of California with the Big Band he fronted for his senior years at school. Then returning to Australia to begin touring with veteran Australian entertainers Bobby Limb and Dawn Lake and later that year joining a troupe of ballroom dancers as compare and guest vocalist. In 1991, Darren was a finalist in The James Morrison Jazz Scholarship and after grabbing Morrison’s attention, toured with him around Australia at jazz clubs, special events and festivals. Various bookings took a young Mr. Percival to stages around the world including a Parliament House Concert for President Bill Clinton. For seven years the association with James Morrison lead to numerous television appearances, recording sessions and national touring.

Unconventional in the sense that Old Man River used over 15 musicians – including some of the finest players in India – in sessions that started in Sydney, were shaped in Israel and then sweetly refined in India. Final mixes were undertaken by Wayne Connolly (Vines, Josh Pyke) in Sydney and Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, Fratellis) in Los Angeles. The result is that Trust picks up where 2007’s APRA Award winning debut Good Morning album left off. And more. Born in England and bred in New Orleans, Jon Cleary is a triple threat combining soulful vocals, masterful piano skills, and a knack for composing infectious grooves with melodic hooks and sharp lyrics. He balances performing on solo piano, with noted funk band The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, and his new trio Piano, Bass & Drums, alongside a career as a notorious hired gun with the likes of Bonnie Raitt and John Scofield. Cleary is featured on vocals and keyboards on the recently released, Piety Street by John Scofield & The Piety Street Band. Cleary has toured with Bonnie Raitt since 1999, and has appeared on the albums Silver Lining and Souls Alike. On these recordings, Raitt covered the Cleary originals, “Fool’s Game,” “Monkey Business,” “Unnecessarily Mercenary,” and ”Love on One Condition.” Cleary has produced five recordings to date including his latest, a live recording from Sydney, Australia called Mo Hippa, which features a mix of the styles that inform the New Orleans’ sound -- from island rhythms, to soul-drenched funk jams, to Mardi Gras Indian street-parades. It’s been a long time between drinks for Midnight Oil fans. The only gigs in the last eight years have been at the Wave Aid and Sound Relief charity concerts. These exhilarating performances prompted a strong desire in drummer Rob Hirst and guitarists Martin Rotsey and Jim Moginie to start making music together in a new form. With that we introduce you to THE BREAK. In what might at first seem an unlikely union, the three founding members of Midnight Oil are joined by Brian Ritchie bass player of US band Violent Femmes. The Oils of course have their roots in the surf pubs of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The Femmes on the other hand hail from Milwaukee Wisconsin. What is not so well known however is that the two bands have shared a history, a friendship and even a tour manager for over a decade, having met when they both played the inaugural ‘Earth Day’ concert at Columbia’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’. When Ritchie recently moved to Hobart Tasmania the stars were aligned and the four got together for a jam in Jim Moginie’s studio. Kicking off with an old Link Wray track ‘Rumble’ (made famous in the movie Pulp Fiction) the sound that emerged took on an energy of its own and the new band was born. THE BREAK bring a sheer raw vitality and phenomenal force to the surf rock genre. Their powerhouse sound does of course have that unmistakable whiff of Oil but unlike anything the band has done before. THE BREAK explore new horizons and obscure influences whilst tipping the occasional nod to 60’s legends such as Ennio Morricone, Joe Meek, Link Wray and Dick Dale as well as the psychedelic musical meanderings of San Francisco’s Mermen with whom Ritchie has played on numerous occasions.

For 'true' fans of Mark Seymour, the real highlight of one of his concerts, is right at the very end, where he invites the entire audience to join in a sing-a-long with him, of his classic 'Throw Your Arms Around Me'. It becomes apparent right then and there that is truly only one Mark Seymour, one of the true innovators of the Australian music scene. Mark always had a passion for music. And in 1981 when Mark formed Hunters and Collectors, one of the greatest bands in Australia's history was born. The Hunters were a strange lot. It was virtually impossible to categorise their music, and whenever someone tagged them as adhering to a specific genre, they would change their musical style once again, not to prove anything to anyone but themselves. Mark Seymour wrote some of the classic Australian drinking songs such as 'When the river runs dry', football match fave 'Holy Grail', hard rockers and slow ballads like 'True tears of joy'.

October 2010 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Australian troubadour Lior with the release of his third studio album – ‘Tumbling into the Dawn’, on 1st October through Inertia. The album was written and recorded in numerous locations between his home town of Sydney and his current home address of Melbourne, and cemented his long time collaboration with producer Francois Tetaz. To celebrate the release, Lior will head out on a lengthy national tour this October!

GANGgajang was formed in 1984 after several songwriting sessions for the ABC TV program Sweet & Sour. Martin Scorsese chronicled this most iconic night in rock history which has been hailed as one of the greatest concert films ever made. The music from this movie resonated with this group of musicians in a big way and they have put together an 11 piece show band to perform all songs from ‘THE BAND’S farewell concert. ‘It is an absolute privilege to perform the music from this wonderful soundtrack of ‘The Band’ and their friends and idols who performed with them at ‘The Last Waltz’…..these artists influenced a whole generation with their music’.

Like only a small handful of other Australian artists, their music has stood a test of relevancy and dating that never strips them of meaning or pleasure. The tour will be an intimate and inspiring journey from the past to the present. Included in the ticket price, every ticket holder will receive a complimentary 28 page colour programme with discographies and reviews as well as short overviews of each album written by Marty Willson-Piper. That’s not all. Ticket holders will also receive a free copy of the Deadman’s Hand EP with the title track from untitled #23 and four brand new tracks recorded specifically for this release. When the Bondi Cigars were first gigging around Sydney, late 1989, they moved in a blues/R&B circuit which, while robust enough since the 60s, had then been sparked into new life by the ‘blues revival’ of the mid-80’s, spearheaded by Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and similar crusaders. And while many of the Sydney bands from that era have vanished, become historical footnotes or undergone major changes, the Cigars - true survivors - have battled on, without ever compromising their distinctive no nonsense style, to become a leading force in Australian R&B. Apart from the timeless, unpretentious nature of the music, an obvious reason for the longevity of the Cigars must be the ongoing musical team work of 2 foundation members, Shane Pacey and Al Britton, who continue to co-lead the band. This also explains the consistency of the band’s sound, instantly recognisable for 17 years now, despite personnel changes and occasional stylistic variations The Cigars have consistently delivered the goods; with Down In The Valley nominated in the 2003 ARIA awards for Best Blues & Roots Album, 1995’s After Closing Time awarded Best Blues Album at the 1996 Lithgow Blues Festival, and two of their songs, Lead Me Not Into Temptation and Intensive Care, chosen to feature on the popular ABC Seachange album. As with all great bands, the sum of the whole exceeds the sum of the parts and the Bondi Cigars are no exception:

Mark Wells is a talented singer/songwriter from Newcastle, Australia. His emphasis on writing memorable tunes and delivering energetic performances has earned him a swag of awards, radio airplay and a legion of dedicated supporters. Citing Ryan Adams, Keith Urban and Jackson Browne as major influences, Wells’ style is emotionally raw, and his honest storytelling pulls no punches while never forgetting to have a good time in the process. Touted as one to watch by country songstress Catherine Britt, and the legendary Bill Chambers, Wells has been riding a wave of success ever since he won the Songwriter’s Prize at the Telstra Road to Tamworth in 2008. The win earned him a trip to the US to meet and work with some of Nashville’s best songwriters and US music industry heavyweights. The Idea of North defy categorisation. As a quartet of musicians, their voices are their instruments: soprano, alto, tenor and bass, with a bit of vocal percussion thrown in. GEORGE GOLLA - A much admired performer for his technical mastery of the guitar his swinging style, his Latin influences and also for his musicianship and friendly easy going manner and good humour. George remains one of the major figures of Australian Jazz most notably for his partnership with Don Burrows. George has toured the world and performed with all the greats including Stephane Grappelli. He is a great inspiration to guitar players everywhere and those like Bruce who follow on and tap into George’s lifetime of musical knowledge and experience and marvel at what still is a remarkable player, with a remarkable career.

This is the Australian series founded and hosted by Matt Zarb under the covenant and guidelines of Acoustic Guitar Masters and is dedicated to showcase Australia's finest acoustic guitarists and acoustic acts. The series will also be supporting the development of younger virtuoso acoustic artists. This concert series was originally founded in Buffalo Kentucky USA in the year 2000 by Eddie Dean Mattingly and partner Carol Reesor. During Matt’s time living in Kentucky he performed as part of this series. On returning home it was Matt’s dream to see something similar happening here in Australia. Please take a moment to visit the mother ship of the series and check out the long list of amazing acoustic guitarists and acoustic musicians that have graced the Elizabethtown Kentucky Performing Arts Center under this banner of Acoustic Guitar Masters including our own Tommy Emmanuel, Rick Price, Anthony Snape and Matt and Pauly Zarb.

When fingerstylist Todd Hallawell and flatpicker Robin Kessinger take the stage together, guitar aficionados will want to be in the front row! Todd and Robin have been able to create an entirely new musical adventure for their audiences to enjoy. Whether they’re playing a traditional fiddle tune, an intricate ragtime piece, or singing a heartfelt ballad, they provide the audience with plenty of smiles and laughter and an exciting, unforgettable musical experience. Both Todd and Robin have performed on the Acoustic Guitar Masters series in Kentucky.

Robin Kessinger has won too many guitar contests to mention, including the National Flatpicking Championship in Winfield, Kansas, the West Virginia State Championship, and titles in Georgia, Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky, to name a few. Robin headlines festivals and participates in guitar contests throughout the nation as performer and judge as well as instructor.

Todd Hallawell is one of those musicians who feels at home with just about any style of music. Todd has received multiple awards as a guitarist including the National Fingerstyle Guitar Champianship in Winfield, Kansas and his compositions have been selected for both film and theatrical presentations.

Vika and Linda Bull

Vika and Linda Bull are the amazing sister vocal duo who came to prominence after being asked to sing backing vocals in Joe Camilleri's band The Black Sorrows. Their combined Tongan and Australian heritage provide the impetus behind their blend of world music. Before the Black Sorrows (where they sang as featured vocalists) brought national fame, the sisters sang with Sophisticated Boom Boom and the Sacred Hearts of Sweet Temptation. Vika released two solo singles in 1988, "Living Hell" and "My House," before teaming up with Linda for their debut album, Vika and Linda. An easily accessible musical showcase for the sisters, it featured some of Australia's most talented songwriters, including Paul Kelly, Stephen Cummings, Joe Camilleri, Nick Smith, Mark Seymour, Nick Barker, and Wayne Burt. Their next album, At the Mouth of the River, was recorded for Peter Gabriel's Realworld label. In 1996, Vika & Linda returned to Tonga, where their mother was born, to meet the nation's monarch King Taufa'ahu Tupou. This trip led to their next album, Princess Tabu, an album heavily influenced by Tongan culture and featuring some of the country's finest musicians, including the vocals of the Mosi Mosi Kava Club. The album was recorded in England with Massive Attack producer Jeremy Allom and again featured a plethora of Australian talent including Paul Kelly, Tim Finn, Barry Palmer, Michael Barker, and Diesel. As well as their solo performances, Vika & Linda have also appeared on several albums by well-known Australian acts, including John Farnham, Hunters and Collectors, Ross Wilson, Archie Roach, Paul Kelly, and Noiseworks.
